I'm getting lots of messages lately from people who are wondering if they could manage hiking the PCT (or other major trails.)
My answer is: yes, you can, and if you can't do it this year, or next year, it will be waiting for you some other year.
I'm not a good person for trail advice or logistical help, (as you know from reading the book) but I can hook you up via email with people who know what they're talking about!
That's my thought for the day.

Hey, how about adding an rss feed so I don't have to remember to go find your blog. After reading your book, I expect something special from your blog. Should be interesting watching you get there.
That's a good suggestion. Still getting up to speed on all of this.
cactuseaters, i've never figured out the dealio with rss feeds either. I just finished your book and I really enjoyed it! I first saw it mentioned in the Wesleyan magazine a bit ago. I could really relate to your writings: from worrying about becoming 'unemployable' after sojourns in the mountains to how stinky hikers may be to common folk. I walked on the pct trail heading south from canada to sisters, OR last Fall - and I have been grappling with whether to hop back on the trail soon. That's when I picked up your book - maybe half-hoping that it would inspire me to get back on the trail in August. I am in SF and have some PCT pics of mostly WA state on my blogspot here:
Thanks! And thank you for the photo link -- this blog could use a new splash of authentic, PCT color. as for the RSS thing, it still could happen -- but I'll have to do some logistical work.
On Blogger to turn on rss feeds you go to Settings then Site Feed, set it to Full, and I think that is all that is required. After you do that, at the very bottom of your blog you should see:
Subscribe posts (Atom)
thanks for the update-- after the latest comment I checked on the blogger site (and it looks really easy to set up...)
Timecheck -- I went ahead and added the RSS feed -- so let's see what happens,

I'm not seeing the Subscribe (Atom) at the bottom of your blog.
Darn it -- I think I missed a step (will try again after marathon)
