Things you should NEVER do in the backcountry

The season for recreation is almost upon us so it's time for me to republish this very important, comprehensive list of backcountry don'ts.

You will find my list, in its entirety, right here.

I'm reading Cactus Eaters from firefly coffee shop on front street SC. Im thinking of rejecting a job offer to do this journey, and as a recent college grad, this would be considered stupid. I will be at Firefly for a few hours reading the book and doing some work. I would love to chat about the trail and how I am feeling about it. Coffee/bagel on me.

Wow!

I am way out on the Westside at the moment and have no way of getting out there but yes, I'd be happy to talk this over -- for starters could you send me an email off blog? You can reach me at dwhitescruz@yahoo.com

So many considerations here.

Anon, the main thing for me was committing to do the trail (the whole thing.) I was in a time of my life when I was easing my way out of something (a job) and setting aside time for the trail as a kind of pause/time to take inventory, much in the same way that people backpack through Thailand or Europe or, in some cases, go to grad school for something soul-building and not necessarily "practical." If that makes sense ...
