Cactuseaters relocates suddenly

This won't affect you, my readers, (both of you. Hi, Mom!) but I want to let you know that the Cactuseaters blog is relocating out of San Francisco. I've been bracing myself for this moment by eating thousands of English muffins from Arizmendi bakery every day. And playing that Journey song over and over. Just kidding about the second thing.

I will miss this city. On the good side, the endless dumb jokes about my name will (probably?) cease.

In honor of my move, Lynn Gentry, the Street Poet of Haight-Ashbury, wrote a farewell-oriented poem. I will blog it soon, verbatim.

Where to seƱor? Hope the place, people and weather suit you.

I'll send you baked goods from Arizmendi. Totally worth every penny of whatever overnight postage costs these days. Also, did you know they have a cookbook? Helps with the withdrawals. Let me know if you attempt the cheese rolls. We shattered a perfectly good Pyrex pan trying to bake the darned things.

Very kind of you! We get up there quite a bit so the withdrawals aren't as bad as they used to be. That place is great. Also missing the pupusas of The Mission, specifically the ones at La Seneteca. Parking stinks over there (we just got a ticket for an expired meter) so it's harder to get a pupusa fix than an English muffin fix.

I've never had a pupusa, but now I'm going to have to go out and find one.

Have you been to the burrito place in the mission (ha!)... Hmm, well actually I can't remember the name. They put potatoes in their burritos. It's so good! There are two of them, near 24th st bart, agh. I'm awful at this. I'll come up with the name. Anyhow, you have to go there next time you're around.

And, while I've got your attention, let me just say this: two weeks ago I finished "Cactus Eaters" (initially picked up on a whim to make me feel like I was experiencing some form of nature, when in reality I went camping while on crutches and sat the whole time), and it's been a very long time since I've been that sad that a book was over. I've already convinced two more people to read it. Great story and well written. Thank you!!!

thanks, Shelby -- that's great to hear. Potatoes in a burrito -- I think I know the place, but I too have forgotten the name. Near 25th I think... By the way, went to San Francisco the other day and bought up just about every sourdough muffin at Arizmendi. I think I only left a couple in the bin -- they freeze very well!

La Corneta! Between 23rd and 24th.

Glad you were able to make it to Arizmendi :)
