In loving memory of David Gordon White, September 19, 1965-March 27, 2009

I am planning an online celebration of my big brother, David, a humorist, excellent writer, folksinger and family man who died on Friday after open heart surgery. He was only 43. My family and I raced up Highway 50 toward Carson City to be by his side, but it was already too late by the time we got there. On Thursday, dozens of his friends and colleagues will be joining my family to celebrate the life of David. Many of you who check this blog on a regular basis already know about his hilarious YouTube and MySpace videos --- and the stunning final video that he shot just before his surgery. All of us miss him terribly. There is so much more to say about him, but for now, I just want to send my prayers for David and good wishes to his family.

Dan, I am so sorry for your loss to hear this tragic news. David was my brother too, the brother I never had. I am planning on coming to the service and will see you on Thursday.

Rest in Peace, Zook....

Dan, I am so sorry for the loss of your brother... I lost my beloved mom just 3 years ago, and it is still strong in my heart. I know how hard it is to loss a loved one, it leaves such a huge void and a deep sadness. I am morning with you all over the loss of a unique and very talented and special individual- that Zook was... is... as he lives on in our hearts and memories...
I was in the dorms with him back then at UCSD and I remember well, when he first introduced himself as "Zuke" -- in fact, I never called him David... He was always just "Zuke" to me... We got back in touch at the end of Dec. through Facebook.........

Thank you so much for this, Leesa. Thursday was a deeply sad day for all of us, but it was great to touch base with his friends and colleagues and hear so many stories I never heard before. Thanks for writing in and keep in touch, d

Dan, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your brother.

I don't know you personally, I just recently read your book and discovered your blog today and read this post. I'm so sorry, it must be so difficult, especially as he was quite young. But it's never easy regardless...

My condolences to you and your family during this difficult time.
May you always remember the good times and fun moments you shared with him.

Thank you, Dana. I've been thinking a lot of the great times I had with David, especially up in Mammoth Lakes, California, where my family gathers (almost) every year for mini-reunions. All of us miss him every day.
